DoD Manufacturing Innovation Institutes Awarded Grants to Spur Regional Economic Development

Two DoD Manufacturing Innovation Institutes (MIIs) - ARM and BioFabUSA - are part of teams that were awarded Build Back Better Regional Challenge grants. Funded by the Biden administration’s American Rescue Plan and administered by the Economic Development Administration (EDA), the challenge provides funding to foster economic growth, further inclusive and equitable recovery, and create thousands of quality-paying jobs in industries critical to the future, such as clean energy, next-gen manufacturing, and biotechnology.

New Biotechnology Executive Order Will Advance DoD Biotechnology Initiatives for America’s Economic and National Security

September 14, 2022 — The Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering welcomes the Biden Administration’s announcement of Executive Order (EO) “Advancing Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation for a Sustainable, Safe, and Secure American Bioeconomy.” This EO will bolster efforts by the Department of Defense (DoD) and other Federal agencies to ensure U.S. economic and national security by leveraging biotechnology to secure, strengthen, and diversify our domestic manufacturing supply chains of critical goods, products, and services.
