On January 31, 2024, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary Rick Siger, County Executive Sara Innamorato, Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, Senator Jay Costa, Representative Aerion Abney, and more Pennsylvania leaders visited Mill 19, the ARM Institute’s shared Pittsburgh headquarters with Carnegie Mellon University, to highlight the importance of the robotics and manufacturing industries in the Governor’s new economic development strategy: Pennsylvania Gets It Done. Ira Moskowitz, ARM Institute CEO, had the honor of providing remarks ahead of Governor Shapiro’s address and introduced the Governor. You can watch the recorded livestream of the event here.
The ARM Institute’s Mill 19 headquarters, which is shared with Carnegie Mellon University’s Manufacturing Futures Institute (MFI), made for the perfect location for the historic announcement. Situated within the skeleton of a former steel mill, the work being done in Mill 19, such as the ARM Institute’s Robotics Manufacturing Hub and planned new Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities, is building a brighter future for U.S. manufacturing through robotics and enabling collaboration between diverse groups.
“As the nation’s only advanced manufacturing institute headquartered in Pennsylvania, the ARM Institute is honored to work with Governor Shapiro and his administration to support and implement the new Pennsylvania Economic Development Strategy”, said Ira Moskowitz, ARM Institute CEO. “Pennsylvania’s manufacturing ecosystem is critical to our economy and the nation. Helping our manufacturers and their workers gain the knowledge and skills to implement robotics and AI will ultimately lead to increased job opportunities and factory output.”
