Case Study: AIM Photonics and Spark Photonics team up to develop hands-on educational PIC chip
Morgan Kaler, senior undergraduate in Physics, and Peter Hedlesky, Ph.D. student in Applied Physics use a state-of-the art Maple Leaf Photonics probe station at Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s LEAP facility to align an optical fiber to a waveguide on a passive AIM/Spark Photonics EWD PIC chip. The probe station automatically raster scans the position of the optical fiber to optimize coupling between the fiber and the chip, which improves coupling efficiency and decreases measurement time.
