America Makes Announces Winners of EARTH Project Totaling $1.2M

The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) and America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, are proud to announce the winners of the $1.2M Environmental Additive Research for Tomorrow’s Habitat (EARTH) Project funded by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Research and Engineering Manufacturing Technology Office (OSD(R&E)) and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).

AIM Photonics Welcomes Nathan Lin as Director of Outreach

AIM Photonics is pleased to announce the appointment of Nathan Lin as its Director of Outreach. In his new capacity, Lin will play a pivotal role in delivering AIM Photonics’ innovative solutions to companies and academic/research organizations throughout the U.S. His primary responsibility will be to help guide them in the development of their integrated photonics prototypes using AIM Photonics’ comprehensive electronic-photonic design, multi-project wafer and test, assembly, and packaging services.

Institutes Play Increasing Role in Driving Economic Impact

Several of the 17 institutes in the Manufacturing USA network are often key players in convening stakeholders for their region’s economic development. Two of the institutes received significant funding from the Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Agency (EDA) Build Back Better (BBB) initiative, and three institutes recently received EDA grants associated with the CHIPS and Science Act. Another institute’s host received a grant from the Department of Defense’s (DoD) funding from the CHIPS and Science Act.

Universal Achemetal Titanium Awarded $11.3 Million Contract from United States Department of Defense for for Titanium Metal R&D in Montana

The Department of Defense (DoD) has awarded $11.3 million dollars to Universal Achemetal Titanium, LLC (UAT) to conduct titanium metal research and development in Montana for the United States Navy, Office of Naval Research. U.S. Senator Jon Tester (D-Montana) was instrumental in securing the funding for this initiative of critical national importance.

The Defense Logistics Agency shined bright during the 2023 Defense Manufacturing Conference hosted in Nashville, Tennessee. With a gathering of over 1,500 attendees and 135 exhibitors, this year’s theme was Manufacturing Innovation: Propelling the Joint Force.

ARM Institute Project Highlight: Securing the Digital Backbone with Corsha’s Zero-Trust Platform for Machines

In March 2023, in partnership with the Office of the Secretary of Defense Manufacturing Technology (OSD ManTech) and the ARM Institute’s fellow Manufacturing Innovation Institutes (MIIs), the ARM Institute hosted a workshop at our facility in Pittsburgh centered on Point of Need Manufacturing Challenges for the Defense Industrial Base. This event included an OSD-led Requirements Workshop and pitch presentations from MII project teams that were selected from the associated MII Point of Need Manufacturing Challenge Project Call.
